Overcoat
Jackets are for cold days,
like when
the snowflakes fall so delicately
That they pierce the skin on your cheeks
or when you’re craving a warmth, or solution
to a problem you’ve had for weeks
It’s tiresome, but you try
And if it’s indirectly said,
it’ll be your turn to cry
But jackets are for bitter days
and when the frostbite from your fingers
begins to reach your heart,
You’re going to reminisce and wish
that you were a little earlier to start
And when all the snow falls,
you’ll be sorry to even argue
with the environment that turned blue
Because in truth,
that jacket always stays with you
Jackets are for all days
like when
the snow-children you built just melted
and made you turn all dry
or when you’ve lost your footprints in the snow,
and now you’re standing there,
pacing, wondering,
“Why?”
It’s all you’ve ever known,
but Jackets trap the warmth too
So be careful not to overheat
Or it’ll simply overcome you
